The Story of the Vineyard Lewiston

The Vineyard Church of Lewiston was born by a small community called Hope Chapel in 1985. In 1987 they were adopted into the Vineyard and became the first Vineyard Church in Maine. After a season of transition, Ralph and Vicki Grover became the Pastors of The Vineyard and served in Central Maine until retiring in 2004.

Over time we have grown and planted many churches throught Maine and NH. We are part of a community of Vineyard churches that is world wide.

In January of 2004, Phil & Janet Strout became the Senior pastors of the Vineyard Church of Lewiston.

In addition to five church plants, the Lewiston Vineyard has been privileged to have linked hands with 12 other Vineyard churches in New England and participated in a number of church plants in Spain.

In keeping with this story we anticipate the planting of many more churches in Maine and New England.

Our Mission Statement

"To actively reach the Central Maine area with the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ; to worship and adore Him and encourage others to do the same; to train and prepare God's people for the works of service so that the Body of Christ will be built up; to be a caring, creative, loving, healing, Spirit empowered community of believers who will contribute to the redemptive history of the State of Maine."

Our Vision Statement

"Our vision as a church is to be a community of significant size living in worship, walking in fellowship, becoming life long followers of Jesus. Using all that the Lord gives us to minister to one another, we commit ourselves to the redemptive history of the State of Maine, reaching out in every way possible to our neighborhoods and the nations that God calls us to."

The Story of The Vineyard, A Community of Churches.

In 1982, John Wimber, who had been a pastor and church consultant, was asked to serve as the leader of a newly formed association of about nine churches (all in Southern California) that called themselves Vineyard. As the leader of this new movement, known as The Vineyard: A Community of Churches, John pastored the pastors and trained and encouraged the planting of churches internationally. Worldwide, there have been over 620 Vineyard churches planted in the US and many through out the nations including Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Russia, Turkey, throughout the European continent, Africa, Southeast Asia, and in Australia. God has shown us, however, that His desire is not just to build the Vineyard, but that we should promote His Kingdom, and encourage, build, and love the whole church.

Untitled Document PHIL & JANET STROUT: SENIOR PASTORS
Phil Strout is the Sr. Pastor of the Vineyard Church Lewiston. Phil and Jan are both Maine natives but have not always lived here. Phil and Jan responded to the Lord's invitation over 30 years ago. Their journey has been an exciting adventure of faith. Beginning in the 70's and through the 80's they served God together in both evangelistic efforts and church planting in South America. It was in the southern islands of Chile that Phil met the Vineyard and John Wimber via cassette.
The Holy Spirit made it clear to Phil, "This is your tribe."
The 90's found the Strout's with their two children Aaron and Jenna, back in the states. Both church planting and the nations continued to be their passionate pursuit. While assisting the young Lewiston church plant, Phil also worked with the churches of New England in the development and founding of local church based mission partnerships.
In the spring of '93 Phil and Jan lead a church planting team to Portland, Maine to plant a Vineyard in Maine's largest city. They resigned after eight years and worked full time with AVC USA on church mobilization toward the nations. He also traveled widely among the Vineyards with "The Father's Heart for the Nations" seminar.
In January 2004, Phil and Jan accepted the invitation to return to the Lewiston Vineyard as Senior Leaders. The church is experiencing remarkable growth and its members have embraced what they are calling a "Divine Assignment in Central Maine."
This season of Strout's life gives them the joy of having their two adult children, married and with children, right here in the Lewiston/Auburn area! Aaron and Jenny Strout and children Cheyene, Maggie and Patrick along with Shawn and Jenna Stepp and children Marie and Ellie are part of the Vineyard community. ALLEN AUSTIN: EXECUTIVE PASTOR
Allen & Darlin bumped into the Vineyard in 1991 and knew immediately that they had found a home. Allen & Darlin are both originally from Lewiston, were married in 1991 and have two children, Erik & Jennah. Darlin and the kids would say that there is a third child by the name of Zoe, however, Allen reminds them that the Pug is a dog. Allen joined the Vineyard staff in June of 1999, prior to his full time pastoral position he served as a teen leader and kinship leader for several years in the Lewiston Vineyard. While serving as a lay leader Allen worked as a Radiological Technologist at a local hospital. Darlin serves the church and Vineyard Christian School as a volunteer. Allen and Darlin have a heart to see God greatly impact the Central Maine area and are committed to helping people meet Jesus and walk with them in their journey. Allen oversees the day to day operation of the church, spending a lot of time with newcomer assimilation, new believers, and the Alpha Course. PAULINE POWELL: MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT & COUNSELING
When Pauline and Rick Powell visited the Vineyard Church for the first time in July of 1991, they realized they had found their home. Pauline, from Lewiston, met Rick, while both were working in Rick's home state of Indiana. Married since 1983, they have four boys; Chad, Jason, Zachary and Jonathan. A registered counselor and Biblical counselor, Pauline joined the VCL Pastoral staff in January of 2005 to oversee Ministry Development. Before that she has served in various areas of lay leadership. Through her own personal journey, Pauline discovered a passion for Freedom Ministry; guiding individuals to a walk in freedom by helping them find healing and liberty from hurts and bondages as they "grow to know" their identity in Christ. Pauline is an assistant pastor overseeing Ministry Development and the Vineyard Ministries Department which includes such areas as Breaking Free, Divorce Care, Care Ministry, Grief Share and Counseling. A systemic thinker, she helps develop avenues for individuals to get and stay connected in their discipleship with Christ as the well as the church community. Rick, a supervisor at the Portland JetPort for the Department of Homeland Security, enjoys teaching various Discipleship Journey classes and Men's Ministry Events here at the Vineyard. He and Pauline are Small Group leaders whose goal is to build and grow healthy small groups and leaders.
Ultimately, it is both Rick and Pauline's desire to help people "bump into Jesus" so that they might find the wholeness they are seeking, and in turn, become effective in impacting Central Maine for the Kingdom of God. GRIMALDI MARTINEZ: WORSHIP DIRECTOR
Grimaldi was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and experienced a very dramatic conversion at the age of 17. Less than a year later he was off to Valley Forge Christian College, where he majored in Pastoral Ministry. While there he also found himself in the company of some very talented musicians and passionate worshippers of God. By the time he graduated in 1995, he was leading worship for chapel services and was well on his way to becoming a life-long seeker of God. Grimaldi met Celine at Bible College and the two were married in 1992. This union of a Puerto Rican New Yorker and a Franco-American Mainer has produced, among other things, some lively debates about the merits of white rice versus the versatility of potatoes. Their three beautiful children (Manny, Sam, and Isabel) all prefer white rice. In 1995 Grimaldi and Celine moved to Maine and were involved in a church planting effort in the Portland area for a few years. In 1998 Grimaldi became the associate pastor of a church in Gray and served in several capacities worship leader, youth pastor, and short-term missions coordinator, to name a few. During this time he also formed a band called Monday Night Project and began to teach voice lessons at Fiddlehead Center for the Arts. In 2005 the Martinez family moved to Lewiston and began attending VCL (Vineyard Church Lewiston). It didn't take long for them to feel at home. They soon became involved in the worship ministry, Grimaldi as a musician and worship leader, Celine as a background vocalist. Grimaldi just recently joined the VCL staff as the Worship Director and continues to work, for the time being, as a hair stylist in Falmouth. In his spare time Grimaldi enjoys boxing, song-writing, and perfecting the art of the home-made smoothie. MIKE WARD: TECHNICAL DIRECTOR Mike and his wife Ann grew up with a Catholic background, having a knowledge of God but never knew the depths of His love until they found The Vineyard in 1993. Having a musical background, Mike and Ann were captured by the worship team's first song, "Warrior King", and soon after felt the intimacy in worship grab their hearts. Mike became part of the worship team in 1994, and when the church birthed VCF-Mechanic Falls, Mike and Ann sensed God's leading to go on the plant. During this time, their passion for worship drew them into writing songs of worship, and felt God calling them to go into other churches bringing the Good News and fan the flame with songs of celebration, freedom, and deliverance to the community. Forming two bands, "Fortress" and "David's New Shoes" they ministered in the surrounding communities. In 2003, Mike and Ann felt called to assist a local non-Vineyard church, helping them establish their worship team. After a year of service, they missed their Vineyard roots and family, and returned to VCF Lewiston, where Mike was raised up to oversee worship. Later in 2004, he was asked to join the staff. Currently Mike leads a worship team and is the Technical Director for VCL as well as facilitating a quarterly worship song writing development class. Mike, Ann and their two children, Britnee and Zach, along with their greyhound "Judy" currently reside in Lisbon, Maine. BOB NAILOR: CHILDREN'S PASTOR
Bob and Lynda Nailor came to the Vineyard in July of 1991 and quickly found themselves involved in a great adventure with God. Within a week of visiting the church they were invited to a kinship (home groups that meet weekly). Kinships quickly became vital to them and they have attended one ever since. It wasn't long before they began leading kinships. In the fall of that year, Bob felt a call to begin to work as a volunteer in the Children's Ministry program. What they didn't realize at the time was that these two decisions would shape the direction of their journey for many years to come. In 1993 "Pastor Bob" began leading Children's Ministry as a lay leader and came on staff as the Children's Pastor in June 2007. Bob and Lynda have a passion to see kids become sold out for Jesus and start their journey as life long disciples as early as possible. Bob and Lynda have been married since 1991 and have four children Amy, Amanda, Adam and Zac. Prior to coming on staff Bob worked for 20 years at Bath Iron Works as Senior Project Manager. Lynda worked for 20 years as an Interpreter for the Deaf and since 2001 has used her sign language skill teaching a special needs child at Lisbon Community School. DICK RYERSON: ADMINISTRATIVE PASTOR / SMALL GROUPS Dick was born in So. Paris, Maine and moved to Auburn in 1956. He and his wife Judi both attended Edward Little High School, where they met during their junior year. They both graduated in 1959 and were married in 1960, living in Florida and Cape Cod while Dick served in the military from 1959-1966. Dick attended the University of Maine, receiving a BS and MS while teaching and serving as principal at Gray New Gloucester High School. In 1975 Dick and Judi met the Lord, during the Charismatic renewal, while attending the Catholic Church. They moved to Windham in 1981, serving in leadership at Windham Assembly of God and then founded Windham Christian Academy, where Dick served as Administrator and Judi as secretary until 1991. In 1995 they started attending the Portland Vineyard, where they served in numerous leadership positions, as well as developing Marriage Encounter for the Vineyard. In 2003, God said, "forget retiring" and called them to plant a Vineyard Church in Sanford Maine. They moved to Sanford, along with a team and pastored the
Sanford-Springvale Vineyard. After four years of growing the church to about 120, Dick sensed God saying it was time to turn the church over to the associate pastor and jump into another assignment. They moved to Lewiston in March of 2007 to work with church planters and churches adopting into the Vineyard, in Maine and New Hampshire. Dick works on staff in the area of Financial Management and Project Development. Together Dick & Judi also work in the development of the small group ministry here in the Lewiston Vineyard. They have two daughters, Heather and Heidi, and five grandchildren, Abby, Robby, Tyler, Benjamin and Sammy. TINA SALISBURY: BOOKKEEPER Tina and Mark are from New Zealand and moved to Maine in the summer of 2005. They were married in 1992 and have two girls, Bethany and Rebekah who attend the Vineyard Christian School. Tina managed her own graphic design company in New Zealand from 1992 until leaving for the US in 2003. Mark is an RN and works in the Emergency Department at MMC in Portland and volunteers in the area of international missions with the church. Tina became a Christian in 1987 in New Zealand and through experiencing the freedom, healing and grace of God in her own life has a passion to see God bring freedom and healing to others. Mark and Tina moved to the US for ministry training, having felt for a number of years that the Lord was preparing them for pastoral ministry. They first experienced the Vineyard Church in Miami in 2004 and knew that this was the tribe that God wanted them to belong to. They have both just completed the Vineyard Leadership Institutes' 2 year training. Mark and Tina are small groups leaders and help with coaching small group leaders, they are both very committed to walking out their faith and life with others in the context of small groups. Tina also helps with the youth ministry as one of the youth leaders and counselors.
Tina has been the bookkeeper at the Vineyard Church since September of 2007. JENNA & SHAWN STEPP: TEEN PASTORS Jenna and Shawn Stepp have been working with youth since 2002 after they graduated from Oral Roberts University. They were youth pastors at the Vineyard in Framingham, MA for 4 years before taking a year to do the Vineyard College of Mission in Idaho and the Philippines. Shawn is currently getting his PA degree at the University of New England. Jenna is also a proud mommy to Marie and Ellie (ages 4 and 2). Both have a passion to see youth walk in authentic, radical faith and reaching out to the world around them in a relevant way. Jenna also serves as the administrator for the East Region of Vineyard churches and loves seeing pastors equipped and resourced for the journey, especially youth pastors! Most of the time you can't tell they are the leaders cause they blend with the youth :) AARON PARADIS: FACILITIES DIRECTOR Raised in the Catholic Church and confirmed in 1994, Aaron did not attend any church again until he was introduced to the Vineyard in 1998. It was here that he met his wife, Angie, and they were married at the church in 2003. Together, they led the teen ministry from 2003 to 2004, and since then, they have led and hosted numerous small groups, as well as Alpha. Having had 361 days of marriage without kids, Aaron and Angie are now the proud parents of three children - Blaine, Kerstin and James (JJ), with their fourth due in November '08. In 2002, Aaron began to volunteer in the areas of maintenance and cleaning, and in February of 2008 he was hired as the Facilities Director. A graduate of VLI (Vineyard Leadership Institute), Aaron has co-lead two teen mission trips to Mexico, and looks forward to what the future holds in serving Christ. JAY LEVESQUE: VINEYARD SCHOOL DIRECTOR Jay Levesque joined the Vineyard Christian School as the High School Math and Science teacher in 2006 after 15 years in marketing and management. He lives in Cundy's Harbor with his wife Kim and son Brandon and enjoys coaching the VCS Revolution Varsity soccer team, fishing for striped bass, and being part of the worship program at the Vineyard Lewiston. Jay and his wife Kim were involved in Collegiate ministry at Bowdoin as Navigator staff for almost 10 years prior to joining the staff as director of the Vineyard Christian School.
Jay's firm belief is that the Vineyard Christian School can be an integral ministry in the vision of the Lewiston Vineyard by restoring the hope and future God promised in Jeremiah 29:11 to students and parents that partner at the school.

What to Expect - What to Expect

I know - it's not easy visiting a new church for the first time. Sometimes you feel like a nonmember visiting a country club. Do I belong here? Am I really welcome? Will the people be unfriendly, or too friendly? Will I be conspicuous? Will it be easy to leave if I don't enjoy it? Will they ask me for money? Will my kids enjoy it? How should I dress? Am I welcome if I don't believe?

As pastor, I want to make visiting VCL an enjoyable experience, easy, stress-free, relaxing. Many of the folks here at the Vineyard were in the same place as you not long ago, a first time visitor. I would like you to know what to expect, so here's a brief overview.

When you arrive at the Vineyard (on Foss Road, 2 1/2 miles east of exit 13 toward Lisbon) for either our 8:30am, 10:30am service, you will park in our main lot and use the Main entrance into our building. Come early and enjoy a cup of Coffee in our Fireside Cafe!

What about the kids?

Upon entering, there should be some friendly people (we call them "greeters") to say hello, answer any questions you have, and direct you to the sanctuary. If you have kids, they can point you to Vineyard Kids, or the Nursery (which are also well-marked with clear signs). If your kids are shy, they're welcome to attend the adult service with you, but most kids really enjoy K.I.D.S. Church. We have an exciting Young Disciples class for 5th & 6th graders, and our Junior and Senior High students have a special service Sunday nights 6 to 8pm.

What do I wear?

You'll notice that everyone is dressed comfortably, in anything from "office casual" to jeans and sneakers. We want everyone to come as they are, so dress however you feel comfortable. When you come in the sanctuary, you'll be given a copy of " The Bulletin" which has the week's announcements and future events. You'll notice the back of the Bulletin has a tear-off slip, which is an easy way for us to get better acquainted; you can ask for any kind of information or assistance using the tear-off slip.

How long?

The service usually begins with some upbeat music, followed by a welcome and some announcements. At times, there will be a drama or multimedia to further explore the days theme. Then, I (or another speaker) will begin the message. I usually speak for about 30 minutes, and I do my best to make the messages interesting, enjoyable, and relevant to daily life. The message will be based on the Bible, and I will often include interesting quotes from contemporary people, songs, or movies. If I do my job right, you'll hear solid Christian theology in intelligent, understandable, relevant terms. And hopefully, you'll laugh at times and maybe feel a tug at your heart too. I'll close the morning service about 65 minutes after it began (and believe it or not, the time will fly). For those of you looking for some extended worship time, try our 6:00pm service, we have more time for worship and fellowship here. I hope you'll come up and introduce yourself to me afterwards.

What else?

During announcements we greet our guests. We invite you to fill out our visitor section of the bulletin, tear it off and pass it in at the information center. You will then be warmly greeted and given a free CD with a sample of the worship you enjoyed during the service. You will also receive a coupon for a free coffee to be used at our coffee bar in the foyer. This is a great opportunity for us to meet our guests, introduce ourselves and answer any questionis you may have. We value our guests and want your time at the Vineyard to be welcoming.

Communion

Every other week we celebrate Communion. Communion (also known as the Eucharist or the Lord's Supper) is a Christian celebration of the self-sacrifice of Jesus Christ. If you're a committed Christian, you're welcome to share in communion with us, and if not, you can just sit back and enjoy the music, because our Worship Team will be playing and singing during this time. Speaking of the Worship Team, they do a great job leading musically, with a contemporary feel (drums, guitars, keyboards, vocalists). You'll have some new tunes to hum all week long.

After the service

After the service, you'll pick up your kids from their classrooms, and then we hope you'll stay around, meet some people. Church is about God and worship, but it's also about community and compassion, so we hope people really experience warmth and friendliness at the Vineyard.

That's about it. People constantly tell me that they really felt comfortable - "at home" are the words I hear most frequently. I hope you'll stop by this Sunday. And if you do, please come down and say hi, and tell me that you found out about VCL on the Internet.

Thanks for your interest.

Mission Philosophy

We believe that God is a missional God and the church is to be missional minded. God's mission for the local church includes our own backyards and communities, but also every corner of the world that he leads us to.

At the Vineyard Lewiston we view missional outreach as an everyday occurrence , to our local communities we want to be continually reaching out through servant evangelism, other outreach events and simply the church (the people of God) interacting with the un-churched in everyday life always looking for opportunity for God's Kingdom to break-in to everyday situations.

Cross culturally we are currently working in both The Basque region of Spain and the Dominican Republic. In both of these areas we work in partnership with other Vineyard Churches, using the synergistic approach; shared minds, vision and resources.

The Basque region of Spain gives us an opportunity to work in an area of the world in which the evangelical presence of the Church in barely a recognizable. We currently support and work with Juan and Ruthie Rojas, a Chilean couple who has been lead by God to work toward a Vineyard Church planting movement in the Basque Land.

We, in partnership with other Maine Vineyards in the Maine Vineyard Missions (MVM) partnership send resources as well as teams of people to support the Rojas' throughout each year. We believe that anyone can be involved to some level and encourage all our members to have their passport and an open ear to listen for when the Lord might call them to "go".

We are very excited about our partnership with some of the N.Y. Vineyards in the Dominican Republic. There is a Vineyard Church in Santiago that has been established and we are working with. Our work will at this time primarily be ministering to people that don't have the same opportunities that we do here, it will involve working with the poor, building projects, supporting the local Vineyard Church, and ministering to children.

Our hope is to take several teams of regular people with a heart for God to this part of the world each year and expose them to cross-cultural mission. Check out www.teamdominican.org

What is Servant Evangelism? According to Steve Sjogren and Dave Ping, authors of the book Out Flow: Outward-focused living in a self-focused world ", "Evangelism is a simple, straightforward approach to sharing God's love in simple, practical ways."

We are a community of people who are committed to following Jesus Christ with our whole lives and who are called to love and serve each other and the communities of Central Maine.

We are a place where all are welcome: true believers along with the curious, the skeptical, the wounded and the disillusioned. We are a place of new hope and second chances. We are a church where God can be found!

Our Purpose: Love God & Love People. We use the language of journey; we believe the Christian experience is one of discovery, walked out in community in an authentic, no hype way. We want our faith to have just as much relevancy in the middle of a work week as it does on a Sunday morning.

It is for Freedom that Christ has set us free. Gal 5:1

There are few things more crucial to us than our own lives. And there are few things we are less clear about.

The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy, but Christ came to give us life in abundance. This class will give you the tools to fight the spiritual war we face and overcome some of life's heartache and disappointments.

The class is based on the book by John Eldridge, Waking the Dead. Come find out how to Walk with God; Receive His Intimate Counsel; Find Deep Restoration and Fight for Your Heart.

We invite you to come for this 12 week class and discover who you are in Christ, to find and live the abundant life promised by Jesus Christ. Some of the topics covered are:

-- Ransomed and Restored,
-- Walking with God,
-- Deep Restoration,
-- Spiritual Warfare-fighting for your heart,
-- Setting Hearts Free and much more.

The class is held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm at the Education Center. Child care is provided. For the next class cycle start date check the church calendar. For more information or to sign up contact the office

Transformation is a life long process. Our desire in ministering to women is to come alongside one another in encouragement and love as we grow together in Christ. Our model is the Titus 2 woman and other Biblical models that show us how to become more Christ-like in our ongoing journey. This ministry is many faceted in function and purpose and is an arm of the Vineyard Church.
For more information contact Janet Strout 784-9500

We host a monthly women's breakfast. This is a time for fellowship, great food along with worship, teaching and ministry. A great way to get and stay connected in the Vineyard Community. See the calendar and bulletin for the schedule and sign ups.

Vineyard Christian School was founded in August of 2000. It was established after much prayer over the well being of our youth. It is our desire to offer a Christ centered atmosphere where scholastic excellence and respect for our community is paramount.

VCS is a school where students are valued for who they are and encouraged to succeed academically and spiritually. VCS educates students from Pre-K through grade 12.

The Lord has called The Association of Vineyard Churches to plant thousands of churches. Vineyard Lewiston is part of that mission! We intend to plant many churches throughout the United States and around the world. In order to accomplish that mission, the Vineyard Leadership Institute (VLI) was created to train leaders and workers. We also believe that the church's calling includes developing men and women to reach their maximum potential in Jesus Christ and in future ministry service.

VLI has three components:AcademicHands-On Ministry OpportunitiesCharacter Development

This two-year program guarantees a foundation for future successful church planting or leadership.

Each small group in the Vineyard seeks to form a small community of believers who worship God, pray and care for one another, train together in the Bible and in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and reach out beyond the group to serve the larger community.

Small groups are central to the way we do church at the Vineyard. We believe that small groups are the best way to provide a context for real community, discipleship and ministry.

We have groups in all areas of Central Maine, on all nights of the week, and for all kinds of people.

We believe that all Christians should be trained to do the works of Christ. We are committed to the "show and tell" model of "on the job" training in which people are introduced to doing ministry functions with others who pass on what they have learned. We aim to provide training for all aspects of responsible Christian life and ministry.

The Vineyard Care Ministry acts like a M.A.S.H. unit in that it is organized to respond quickly to a need. We are the "first responders" so people know that their church cares for them enough to be there in their time of need. We are here to make that hospital visit quickly or provide a meal with in a day's notice.

We have many ways of reaching out including making encouraging phone calls, sending cards, visiting people in hospitals, nursing homes or in their own homes, preparing meals, providing support to caregivers and to the grieving.

For more information and to get involved contact Jacquie Emond at 786-6959 or Jolene McClintick at 729-8202.

Counseling at the Vineyard - Counseling

The Vineyard Church of Lewiston offers different arenas through which an individual can receive personal help and counseling. It is our desire for everyone to find the help they need to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Areas of Competence:

This is a lay biblical counseling team. The lay counselors have been trained to minister to individuals, couples and families in the Vineyard Church community. The purpose of the ministry is to deal with past hurts and recognize though patterns and behaviors that are destructive and unhealthy. We then help people to learn and implement healthy and Godly thought patterns and behaviors that promote healthy relationships. This is a Biblically based ministry and provided by a team of lay counselors. This is not psychotherapy nor are we licensed clinical social workers. We recognize that the Holy Spirit is the true counselor and He heals and restores. We offer encouragement, support, structure and accountability in the process.

Course of treatment:

At first contact there will be a consultation. At this time basic information will be gathered, the basic problem as you understand it, what's been done until this point, and what you can expect. We will decide whether to continue and strategize what that will look like or refer you to another source of ministry or an outside source.

For more information contact Pauline Powell at 784-9500.

What We Believe - What We Believe

We believe that there is ONE LIVING AND TRUE GOD, eternally existing in three persons, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.

We believe that the SCRIPTURES of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired, and entirely trustworthy in all matters of faith and practice.

We believe in GOD THE FATHER, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in human affairs; that He hears and answers prayers; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

We believe in JESUS CHRIST, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit.

We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and His personal and visible return to earth.

We believe that in His first coming Jesus Christ inaugurated the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God. We believe in THE HOLY SPIRIT, who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ.

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher and Guide. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the exercise of all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit.

We believe that ALL PEOPLE are CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, which secures and establishes their value, yet are also SINNERS by nature and choice and are therefore under condemnation, and that God regenerates by the Holy Spirit those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord.

We believe in the UNIVERSAL CHURCH, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ORDINANCES to the Church: Baptism and Communion.

We believe in the laying on of hands and the communion of the Holy Spirit, for: the ordination and setting apart of pastors, elders and deacons; for imparting and receiving gifts of the Spirit and healing; and for confirmation and blessing.

We believe in the personal, visible RETURN OF CHRIST to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom; in the resurrection of the body and the final judgment of both the living and the dead.

Ministries - Ministries

We want people who think of themselves as ministers.

Ministry is a word that describes something every Christian should do. The word "minister" comes from a Latin word meaning servant. Ministry is serving others with the gifts and abilities God gave to you.

At the Vineyard Lewiston we believe all members are able to minister. We are committed to caring for one another and ministering to each other. There are many opportunities to receive and extend ministry here at the Vineyard.
